I have a solid roller cam going in a 454 and need a couple of questions answered.
First, the cam is Herbert billet that specs out at 242 duration (both sides) and .624 lift (gross) on a 110 ICL.
What springs would work best with this cam? It will be a primarily street driven car with maybe a couple trips to the local track each month. We do have Isky Redzones for this motor as well.

Second, what intake would maximize this cam's potential? I kinda feel that it could use a good dual plane like the Performer RPM or even a single plane but, am not sure which one? Probably looking at turning the motor no more than 6500 rpm.

I should also mention this is a heavy automatic car with a 4:10 posi rear.

All thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!

I have a Herbert roller in my SBC and I asked Herbert for the specs on the valve springs. BTW I love my solid roller cam, most people think I have a BB just by the sound of the car and the way it runs, it surprises them when I pop the hood!!! or they try to catch it!!! LOL

This is a Crane spring that might be what you are looking for.I would suggest a dual plane intake,a factory aluminum dual plane high rise # 3933163 is hard to beat in a street car, thats whats on my big block, seems to work OK.

Comp Cams also has lots of springs to choose from.I tried to copy and paste some for you but couldnt.Look up Comp online,go to their master catalog, page 287 is the selection of the 26000 series Elite springs, theres a couple that would fit your application.I have the 26075 on my Brodix heads to go along with the UDHarold custom grind solid roller when I get it rebuilt this year.Right now we are in the middle of the worst snow storm this year, guess the car will be staying in storage a little longer !!!

As Mike (wolfplace) has stated many times A minimum 225 lbs. seat and 550 open pressure for a solid roller street motor. I have 2 sets of Comp cams 952 pacaloy springs. 207# @ 1.950 and 567# @ 1.250 CB 1.200 . I ran these springs for 2 years on the street about 4000 miles and never had a problem hitting 7000 rpm. I just installed as set that has about 1200 miles on them. I set spring height at 1.920 minus the lift .655 = open height 1.265.

Let us know how you like the Herbert cam, I almost bought one. Good price for a billet cam. Why didnt you ask them for a spring recommendation when you bought it??

Johnny, I bought the cam used from a friend. Actually, I did call Herbert and the guy I spoke with on their tech line really liked their cams but, wasn't to eager to recommend their springs. Go figure. I thought their were only a couple of spring makers out there anyway.
Thanks everyone for the help!

That cam is pretty much the same as the Comp 288SR Magnum solid roller. Comp is a few degrees bigger at .050. These are old style less agressive lobes that run lower seat pressures. Comp listed these around 150 seat & 400-450 rate spring. As long as it is a stell core cam, probably can't go wrong with 170-200 seat and a 400-450 rate spring.

Make sure you get springs for a SOLID roller. The pressures on both the seat and open need to be higher from a HYDRAULIC roller. As for an intake, for a dual-plane, Edelbrock Air Gap, or for a single plane, Victor Jr. Both will work well. Good luck.
