Well it looks like I am getting Hedman 68198 headers for my 1970 Chevelle SS 396/402 motor to address my spark plug wire clearance issue for the number 7 and 8 cylinders. It also seems I will need custom fit 8mm wires to work with my MSD 85551 ignition so that I do not have Speghetti issues under hood. Any ideas? At the moment I am looking to buy everything from Summit.

A 135 degree plug end avoids a lot of issues, I’m using Taylor wires, brand is your choice, consider 8mm or less unless you have unusual requirements or a pocketful of excess cash, good luck.

We went with Taylor Thundevolt 8.2 with 90° spark plug boots - from Summit.
It was a cut-to-length set that went together in about an hour (5-6th ever set I've done)

No issues with fitment or clearance with the Hedman's - although I did use the wire stands/separators that came with the ZZ502.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info and photos. What is the year and engine size shown in the photos? I had bad luck making custom wires many years ago but don't think I have no choice at the moment. Those header look much better clearance wise than what I have now!

72 (original owner) - ZZ502 - 2" Hedman's ceramic coated.
It wasn't bad at all doing those, I didn't like the red wires (or cap) that came with the engine.
If I remember correctly, I only needed a razor blade, sharp wire cutters, a basic crimper tool and some silicone grease (a small packet came with, but there wasn't enough) - I assume it's easier with the correct spark plug wire crimper, but it was really simple.

I want to correct my previous post, I used 135° spark plug boots on all except #7, where I did use a 90° boot.

Hey guys. Just had new Hedman headers installed on my numbers matching 70 396 SS with a MSD ignition system and I am looking for a new set of wires. I find that the custom wires really don't size up as neat as they should, is there a particular brand with 45 degree plug boots that does. I am also open to getting a universal set and trim as needed. I would like to stay at 8 mm so I can use my current wire looms both on and off my valve covers. Thinking a black set at the moment as that's what's on there but I have burnt throug one of the boots too close to the other headers. Current have Accell Sriral Cores but do not see a part number.

Thanks

I think to keep the wires in order - the wire looms you see that go to the valve cover bolts is the best approach with some 135 degree wires though you may need a 90 degree on one wire depending on headers. Made for you products - has wire looms - the Rodent 4 ones look nice not sure who make those but as you can see it keep everything organized and off the headers. The looms need to be made of plastic as to not conduct electricty / RF inteference. Made for you are Nylon.
