hey guys need some help identifying my engine i have found D270 stamped on the rear of the block at the top where the bell housing would meet and to the left (driver rear of block) of that i found 10069886 and on the pass front of block R91142. any help would greatly be appreciated thanks

D270 - cast in the foundry on April 27, 1970. The day the molten steel was poured into the mold.

That is not a 1970 date code style.
The 1970 date code on blocks from Tonowanda had 70 for the year, not just a 0.

The date code pictured is the later design that was either 1980 or 1990.

The code he posted (T0517ctz) in the other thread he's got on this comes back as a 70 Chevelle or Nova 402/350hp
There's other things wrong with this as the 10069886 casting number doesn't exist but could be 10068286 which is a 90/91 454.
Could be restamped to a 70 engine but why?
Would be nice to see all the casting numbers and stamps he's referred to --hint,hint.
In the engine forum ,he's asking for a recommend on an oil pump for a 454 so I'd guess he knows somethings not quite right with the #'s he giving.

OK ,it's 10068286 so it can't be the ctz code you posted.
You showed 10517070 which so far is T0517 -need to know what the 070 on the end actually is.
Got a pic of that?

1990 4 bolt short deck block.
Do a search on 286 block here and you'll find some good info.
The give away is the boss on the pass side where an early big starter would be bolted up with a brace. On these it's tapped as pipe thread for the knock sensor.

Doing some looking at the possibilities of your engine code ,I think you have a 1990 Mercury Marine 310hp engine.
Hope it wasn't a salt water engine.

guys thanks again for all the help, u guys are awsome, what is the down side to having a marine motor? it is running and im not getting any knocking or other abnormal noises...
