I have a repro Delco R-59 battery that I installed about two years ago that developes what looks like a fine spray of acid on the top around the caps. I've recently replaced the regulator with a solid state unit, but the alternator is old. Also I just noticed the GEN light has come on and stayed on. BTW, the acid droplets seem to collect even when the car is parked and you can hear the sound of pressure escaping from the caps when the engine is off. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rich

I don't know what causes that, but I had one of those batteries that kept pushing a little of the acid out one of the cells onto the top of the case. I just cleaned it up when it would happen because it wasn't much. Later that winter when the car was just setting there the acid ran out the top of the battery and down the inner fender and frame, eating the paint off. I got rid of that battery and haven't bought one of those since then. I just use a fake top on an AC Delco battery.

Tunes-I plan on doing the same when this battery quits. They are an expensive battery just to get the look, which, as you said, can be gotten with the fake top cover. Of course, you can then transfer it to any new batteries after that!

Dean, I guess that regulator could be bad even if it's new. I will check it out.
Thanks,
Rich
