'71 chevelle- switched to a '72 monte tilt collum, the old guy who did the job said nothing matched up. now my battery drains rapidly where it was fine before. noticed that when I connected the battery, pretty good spark. where to start?
When I switched columns on my 73 all I had to do was rotate the factory plug 180 degree's and it plugged right back in. The non-tilt column rod when the ignition was turned on would move towards the firewall and with the tilt column it would pull back away from the firewall (or visaversa/it's been done many years ago).
It sounds like an ignition circuit is powered up while the key is off.
If all else fails do a continuity check between the old column plug terminals and on the new one to see where the wires should go.
