Occasionally when I accelerate from a dead stop, I get a backfire. Is this typically a timing issue, fuel mixture or what. Engine is a new rebuild of a '72 SS 402 using a Pertronix ignition. Advice please.

Timing retarded-Accelerator pump.Make sure your getting the correct vacuum advance.
