I took out the powerglide and put in a Th350 in my '66ss.

Now the backup lights come on in Drive and neutral, but not in reverse. Do I need a new/different switch that is under the console?

Also, the travel of the shifter is VERY short from Park down all the way to 1st. Is this how it should be?
Thanks,

Gerald

Floor shift or column? Either way there should be some adjustment that can be made on the shifter rod, either from the floor shifter to the trans or from the column shifter to the trans. Floor shifter usually has a threaded end that can be moved, and column shifter normally has a clamped on fitting that can be loosened and slid up or down the shifter rod. Shifter throw is going to be short as the linkage wasnt made for the extra travel.

I recommend you get the correct shifter for the TH 350. It uses a cable instead of a shift rod. You can place an ad on this site, you can watch ebay or you can get a conversion kit for your shifter from Shiftworks . You will end up with the correct stops and indicator and your backup neutral safety switch can be adjusted correctly. If you buy the kit you get everything you need. The kit is about $100 plus the needed cable is $40.
