Does anyone know anything about B&M quicksilver shifters? I have one that will not go into park or stay in its designated gear without slipping out. I called B&M today and they said they will repair it for $95.00!!! Seems pricey to me, I would rather do it myself if there are any easy fixes out there. Ive looked at this and played around with it for hours but I cant seem to find out where the problem is. Any suggestions? Thanks

I had one get funny on me as well one time.
When you take the cover off, you will see two little springs ( I think on the drivers side of the shifter.) On mine, one of the springs popped off. Put it back on and it was as good as new. This was about 6 or 7 years ago.

Hope this info helps!

^^^^ i had a QuickSilver shifter 20 +++ years ago and the only issue i ever had was the exact same thing as posted above ;)

now like i said it's been over 20 years but i know that at the time i called B&M and they sent me out some replacement springs. IF this is the case with you and you need the springs let me know. i'd almost guarantee it's the shorty springs pictured here.

i could put one or two if needed in an envelope and mail 'em off to ya ;)

check it out and let me know. if you need me, i'm a Site Mod at Team Nova...

Ive taken it out of the car and I currently have it sitting on my kitchen table. From what I recall, all the springs are intact...but I will have to verify that when I get home. Can the springs wear out over a period of time? Shifty, I will send you a pm w/ my address and I could start from there, I appreciate it.

i'm not a metallurgist but i guess they could wear out

i got your PM. i'd try spraying the ratcheting mechanism with some brake cleaner or some other suitable cleaner and see if it makes any difference also, take off one of your springs and compare it to a quarter to make sure i posted what you need.

what's a postage stamp & envelope between car guys ? ;)

let me know/confirm they're right and i'll mail them off directly, OK ?

Haha...it was just a spring that popped off!! I found it layin on the drivers side floor board. If it weren't for you guys I'm sure b+m would have took me for 100$, thanks a lot. I think the spring jumped off because it was wore out (fits real loosely now). Yes shifty those are the correct springs...I appreciate it.

well, it's been a couple weeks now...

did you get the springs ?

it'd be nice to have the person stop in and post they had arrived, that it helped fix their car... maybe even a "Thanks"

did i help the wrong guy here ? maybe this guy isn't a "Team" member...

gets to be a little depressing when you "Think" you're helping a fellow CarGuy and there's no acknowledgment of receiving the parts and whether the car is fixed or anything.

i tell ya, to run out and dig up the parts, to take the time to get the images, to put them in an envelope, drive to the post office and mail them (paying for postage too i might add) i sure do give this guy a Two Thumbs DOWN...

next time something breaks on your car maybe folks won't worry about trying to help you and you can pay that $95.00 fee to fix it.

good luck and good riddance to ya

As much as I hate to say it, this is just a sign of the times. Kinda sad but I think a lot of folks these days don't know how to show common courtesy. I guess they don't teach that in school!

i've done my best to do what i could for my fellow "Car Guys" as many have helped me in the past. no, i'm not out any money to speak of, parts and my shipping expenses probably didn't go over 5 bucks.

it was the "Hey i got 'em and my car's fixed" that i/we hope to hear.

it's guys like this that make the next guy think twice about helping someone they've never met...

Wow I am so very sorry Mr. Shifty! I really didnt mean to upset you in any kind of way, sir. Its just that, well...I dont get on the internet every day of my life, and to tell you the truth, I honestly thought that I thanked you in advace. But I really do appreciate it and I am sorry that I lack the common courtesy that you obviously dont. I am also very sorry you had to get off the couch and spend so much time digging those up for me. It was nice of you to do that an all, but in all honesty, it wasnt that big of a deal. Get over yourself.

Oh yeh, the springs will be in the mail tomorrow...on their way back to you. I will also include that $0.40 it cost you to mail them to me. I just hope you can find a way to forgive me for wasting so much of your time.
