I am looking to ship a C10 from Michigan to California. I've emailed brokers on/off for the last 3 months, and am getting ready to get this done with. It's my dad's truck and is needed to be shipped before late November before he goes south for the winter or else it'll sit until spring again.
I hear a lot of horror stories about companies giving you a price and later tacking on cost or the driver extorting money to complete the drop off. I am flexible about timing so if the car shows up a couple weeks later, no biggie. I just want to make sure they aren't going to add on costs etc.
I suspect they are all going to say they are insured, but of course that's something I'll clarify up front.
I don't know how these review sites work, but they seem like a scam. Everyone has 200 5 star ratings so I don't think that's very reliable. I know that I shouldn't go with the cheapest. I've narrowed it down to 2-3 transporters that are middle of the road price wise.

Any advice is appreciated and any transporter recommendations are also welcome. I did search on here but some of the recommendations are a bit dated.
Thanks.

My brother and I had issues with a couple of transporters (can't remember their names), but we would ship my parents SUV back and forth from CT to FL then back to CT, and it became such a hassle that my brother and I just started doing it ourselves taking turns. I took the first one, flew to CT and drove it down, and my brother drove it back to CT and flew home, but that was years ago when my Dad was still alive (pre 2007).

There are a few guys on TC that have used transports (Mike 69SHEVL comes to mind), so you may want to ask him.

I've used Reliable Carriers a few times with no issues.

IIRC there's a member here on TC that's a transporter, Enclosed Transport or something like that
Some of us have tried to use that guy for his service, myself twice,

but Jim NEVER comes through for anyone on Team Chevelle.

If I'm wrong, I'd like to here from anyone who used his service.

Your best bet is to go get that yourself with a trailer.

If you don’t have the time and/or the equipment
to do that - try to find someone heading your way
that bought a vehicle and is going after it with an empty trailer.

I would post a separate thread here on Team Chevelle looking for a transport relay.

Winter is just around the corner as you alluded
to - you might have to wait until next Spring
to get the truck transported.

Good Luck 🍀

Yep, really.
From the link you provided ….

You posted a thread about getting a car picked
up in Gillette, Wyoming - my reply:

That applies three years later.

If you posted the same thread - my reply would be the same.

Then - you posted asking if I had ever hauled
a car for a forum member before - I posted
this reply:

Don’t try confuse what you posted about me hauling for other members with the advice I gave to the OP this thread.

You are posting lies when you say I have not hauled vehicles for other members on this forum.

You knew back in 2018 that I had transported
vehicles for other members on this forum.

Just because you do not like someone does not give you the liberty to post lies about them in an attempt to dissuade others from doing business with them.

It's not a matter if I like you or not.

I am just expressing my own experiences with your transport business.

I used Montway Auto Transport back in May to ship my Mustang out to Colorado from Ohio. No issues. I think it was ~$1200. They picked it up at my house and dropped it off at my friend's house in Denver. They picked up Sat afternoon, and had it there Monday morning.

I'm so sorry, but I'm one of those who subscribe to the philosophy of "If you want it done right, do it yourself".

I've had 3 cars purchased on ebay in the previous10 years shipped to me via 3 different brokers offered by ebay. No problems with any of them. 2 were non operative rollers in open carriers. One was an operable restored car in a double decker 4 car enclosed trailer towed by a new Ram 4500. The driver was a Russian immigrant and he was very meticulous with the unloading from the second deck. Prices ranged from $800 for the open carriers to $1,500 for the enclosed. All three were shipped from over 1,000 miles away.

Maybe I was just lucky.

I've also delivered 3 cars over 1,000 miles in my 24' enclosed trailer and picked 2 up from 1,000 miles away with a flat bed car hauler. There were good reasons for those choices but I ain't gonna ever do that again. The deadhead leg with an empty trailer is a punishing ride.
