Awhile back posted my need for a converter for my 396 that will be mostly street driven but not daily and want kick ass performance when I get it on the road. The tech at ATI recommended a tight 8" converter that flashes at 3700 RPM. Said it would move at 1500 like stock but give the performance but to drive it in second gear until the RPMs get up.

Anyone using this on the street? Should I have used a 10" for more streetable performance? Converter is still in the box but the motor is being dropped in this week (excited!!!!).

Oval port 290 heads with minor port work

RPM Air Gap manifold
Speed Demon 750 carb vacuum secondary
TH350 w/shift kit (Until it blows then TH400)

i run a 3500 10" treemaster . they suggested it for me. 468 10.5 comp . 310 rect port heads,248/256 602/622 hyd flat tappet 390 gear. i also saw a post awhile back where they suggested the 8" for less motor than i have. i told them same thing hot street car that will see the track. i'm happy with my 10", just makes you wonder why they make certain choices for ya. imaybe by street driving they think your just driving it to the track. i dunno

Tim,I bet your 396 and my 355 make similar power/torque. A 10" would have been better for your.

I just did a swap for converters and got rid of my 8" treemaster for 10" treemaster thats around 3.5k v.s. a 4.4k stall........They react simular actually and I can't notice too much difference! the 10" stalls up quick with all the low end torque my little supercharger makes. We have 2 totally different animals but your 396 should pound out some torque and make it flash high and hard. For my case and rpm range it was too much converter and this 10" treemaster isn't much different.

FYI...it's easier to tighen up a smaller converter.

Thanks, all appreciated. Seems to be the right one for what I want just wanted some feedback. The 10s seemed like they were being used on the street more. Just want it to hit when I nail it and put me back in the seat. Mike had the converter and his PM gave me a lot of feedback.

That is all I need to hear, perfect. Looking forward even with my baby cam! Looking for bottome end torque. If not enough, its getting nitrous. Should have done the 468 but oh well.
