I have been prescribed Celebrex for arthritis problems but haven't been taking it as the cost is way more than I thought it would be because the prescription was initially refused.I'm waiting to see if the review is approved and how much it will cost then.
I've tried the other OTC ones and naproxen/others by prescrription but the orthopedic surgeon strongly suggests I use the celebrex.
Do any of you guys deal with this or have Celebrex prescribed ? I used up all the sample's they gave me so I don't know if it made any difference. They say you have to be on it awhile before you see any improvement.

I've been on it since they banned Vioxx, right after my second neck surgery. I still have some pain, but if I run out or miss a couple days I wish I hadn't. 40 plus years of linework has pretty well screwed up my joints. Arthitis in my back, hips, hands. Dr. gave me a scrip for Tramadol for pain on days when I really hurt ( like crawling around under a "64 Chevelle ).

Gary, when you first started taking the Celebrix did it help right away or take awhile like they say ? My problems are similar to yours, hands, neck, knee's,back.I'm trying to stay away from anything thats really strong, they really screwed me up so I'm hoping the Celebrix will help some.I've been taking a lot of aspirin since I finished all the sample's I was given.

In the past three months,my arthritis has made almost every day painful for me.Mostly my elbow joints(I weightlift regularly)and my knees.I actually thought I was done working out, which helps me in my day job as a carpenter.
I never went to a doctor, but I just started using otc bi flex sold at target.
Their two a day pills. They have the same pills, just indifferent strengths.
Its helped me a lot already.I know you said you tried other otc stuff,Im just throwing it out there because it seems to have helped me so far.

I've been dealing with severe Arthritis for a long time and have been given every "trick of the week" medications and have Celebrex in my dresser draw but must honestly say I'm feed up with the BIG business medicine; the Celebrex is the reason for my stomach gramps. picture Charlie-horse type pain in your gut! actually have started to spend time on putor for natural anti-inflammatory relief. In my case I think I'VE been playing this game too long, can't see taking these meds for a life time. just my two cents.

Once you start the meds it's a slippery slope till one leads to another to another until your chemically saturated. I don't know if you've tried this but many times arthritis comes from too much acidity in your system such a uric acid from meat. Try a vegetarian diet and eat no grains such as anything made from wheat, pasta, bread, etc.
I am betting only one week of being strict you will notice big changes. Eat all the fresh fruit and veggies you can, fresh almonds, walnuts for protein. No coffee, Costco has a great green tea marketed as Kirkland. I tried this diet and it changed my life forever!
I now have added some chicken and pork and fish after the first month of vegetarian and getting my digestive tract in order. For 15 years I had sore shoulders and joints, I used to live on Tums and Prilosec, no more ever and I sleep all through the night, another benefit, I lost 35 pounds and no more diverticulitis.
Try it my friend,,,, what have you got to lose?

I've had no side effects, and yes it took some time. Mike is correct, it is an NSAID so no OTC ibuprofen type drugs with it. That's why my surgeon prescribed the Tramadol. As I said, I can sure tell when I've missed a couple doses. I've been taking it since 2005. I get to pee in a cup every year to check my kidney function, so far no problem.

Any of you guys have trouble with " trigger finger" ? I am a factory worker and only 39...I have had the sticking fingers for years but never ANY PAIN associated with it...about two weeks ago I started having bad trigger finger of middle and ring finger of both hands but this time it's very painful....I squeeze my knuckles and they are sore...I have put 6000 miles on my motorcycle this summer....I'm wondering if that's causing it or if it could be arthritis or something...

Following chemo, docs put me on Prednisone to reduce inflammation in my lungs (side effect of the Bleomycin). Prior had joint pain, hands, feet, knees, neck,,etc. on the Prednisone, nothing. Side effect, you can't be on it forever and higher doses will accelerate osteoporosis. Currently, take it whenever I have a respiratory flair up. On it right now. 100% pain free. Will be weening off of it shortly, but for the time on it, it's wonderful.

Yes, and it almost killed me.
Four years ago I was prescribed Celebrex by a local doctor to help with some of the aches and pains I have due to a hard life.

Within five days I was in complete kidney failure. I collapsed in a shipyard, was taken to a hospital where I spent 14 days.

My kidneys finally came back on line, but I lost about 30 percent of both.

After a complete investigation, it was determined I had what they call a catastrophic occurrence. There are very few occurrences such as this with Celebrex. In fact, the investgators determined I was 1 in 250,000.

I don't take any Insaids of any kind anymore. Somewhere along the line, I developed some type of allergic tendency toward Celebrex, and possibly other Insaids.

I've been a techinician and have been working around heavy equipment for 30 years, I'm 49 and experienced joint pain 6 years ago after many of hard heavy work . We had an old dog at the that had joint problems and we got him on glucosamine chondroitin for dogs and in two weeks the dog was his younger self again. I found the human formula in the vitamin section of the drug store and it turn my life around , 6 years ago I hardly get out of the bad in the morning from joint pain. I' m taking the Walmart brand Equate Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM in pill form . There also liquid formulas like what advertised on TV like Joint Juice. Chiropractors worst enemy
,this stuff hurts their business.

Thanks I appreciate all the great advice.its like one day your healthy and haven't seen a Dr. in twenty years and the next I'm a freaking hypo-chondriac.
Tod,yes I had trigger-finger in my middle finger, that made for some people thinking I was flipping them the bird.Eventually I had to use the other hand to close the finger to hold something at work so my finger wouldn't get caught on something.Same day surgery was a breeze, one half day and you'll be back to work in a week.Look it up its an occupational disease similar to carpul tunnel if you work with your hands. Its not a joint problem its a tendon problem.
From some of your comments maybe its a blessing they denied the prescription.Thing is I've been staying away from the stronger pain meds for almost a year now cause those things can be evil if you let them. But here comes the cooler, wetter weather and I'm trying to get ahead of the game. Now I know why Fla is so popular with srs.

Before I had my knee replaced the Glucosamine Condroitin in liquid form did me more good than anything.

But for me, rheumatoid arthritis is eating me alive. My neck and other joints almost stop me in my tracks at times. The Orthopedic surgeon who did my knee surgery prescribed a drug called Diclofenac. It has helped a good bit but like with Celebrex you can't take the OC nsaid type drugs at the same time. I try not to take it every day like I'm supposed to but if I get to hurting more than "normal" I'll take it or if I'm going to be moving around, working, etc I'll take it before hand to help ease the pain. The good thing is it's covered by my insurance and it cost less than Celbrex.

I took this for a couple of months for my joints, after a few weeks it seemed to be helping but I had mild diarrhea every morning. I quit using it and the diarrhea went away.
Just FYI.

Two weeks ago my Dr gave me Celebrex for my arthritis. It seems to be better, I haven't had any adverse affects for it. and like you they had to tell the insurance co we had tried different medicines and they approved it.

That seems to be sop.
