Had been using "Grisoft" AVG Free anti-virus program for the last couple of years. 2/18/07 it is no longer "free" so I subscribed.
Since the download/installation of the new program,I can no longer access
America Online(my preferred browser)directly.Click on the AOL icon, program starts, goes to "log in" screen, perform log in,says "Welcome" and stops dead in its tracks...nothing happens for 40 seconds or so then disconnects.
WTF???
Oddly enough,Internet Explorer works fine.I can access "AOL.com" from there and get to my AOL account without problems.

I guess I don't have a clue if this is a problem with the anti virus program but it seems odd that it started the day after it was installed.
Any ideas???

Shawn.
Thanks for the reply.
Yes,shutting off AVG firewall allows AOL to start normally.
Re-activating firewall...problem returns.
Have gone back and checked settings for same and they are set to "allow"
AOL.
I'm thinking that there is a "sub" setting somewhere that needs to be edited.I just don't know which one!

I know, and AOL used to have another browser that was just horrid. Just like SBCYahoo and their enhanced IE. No TY. I'll use IE7 for Updates, and a few other things. Most of the time I am using Mozilla. I want to see web pages, so the plane jane browser is better for me.

There was alot of confusion when AVG said they weren't going to be supporting the free version of 7.1 anymore after some date. A lot of people took this to mean that there was no londer a free version, when in fact there was.
