Soon will be installing a th350 full manual reverse valve body trans, and am concidering an ATI StreetMaster. It's a 10" unit stalling around 2800-3000 from what the ATI tech support told me. Need real world input from anyone who's used one.I'm concerned the stall may be too high for a "street driven" Vette.I've been told the better converters are fairly tight, and will have little effect on normal throttle driving, but stall higher when you hit the gas hard.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ATI sale ends Jan.20  I'm sure their low end stuff is every bit the quality of the high end stuff, they have a reputation to uphold. You'll be fine with 3000 stall on the street, my 3500 10" treemaster works/worked great on the street, gonna find out how a 8" MRT works on the street, thanks Ken :D

Bob, Today I was on to ATI out of interest in a 10" treemaster - for a TH350 I plan to install in my car - I also was told it stalls around 3500 - 3800 rpm

They recommended an 8 inch treemaster - which is in 4500 - 4800 range - if I am into full race only now -

Frankly I never saw myself needing an 8inch convertor at the stage I am running since I am in the low 11's bracket with a little squirt

I was wondering how was your experience and how you rate your 10 inch treemaster?? do you foot brake ??

The price seems more reasonable on sale for the 10 inch tree

Sounds like a call to ATI is an order.

Hows the manual VB feel on the street under "normal driving" shifts? I've never had one before, and the reason I'm going that route is for more control of the shift points, and I was told the line pressure is higher which would provide more holding power to the internal clutches.(Seems my 406 likes to eat transmissions)
This is also why the 3000 stall, since I was told it would help soften the shift if it's under the rated stall speed.I assume once stall is reached it'll bark the 295-50's at will during the shift.

The manual v-body is seamless in reponse to a shift on my 700R4 - my rebuild is just over a year old

I cant say I drive on the street often anymore - just en- route to the track and back

It seems to me that over time it could have the tendency to bang driveline firm enough to become annoying - but then again I have no carpet interior or the like so I hear and feel everything

But the shifts are worth it - in my opinion

For my 700R4 - it has proven the most reliable mod to date on an otherwise stock rebuilt tranny - and one that my local builder has been preaching to me for years to try

I tried TransGo manual auto - but hangup's at high rpm were becoming all to frequent on 2- 3shift and then later on 1-2 shift

I have had their 10" TREEmaster in my ar for well over 8000 miles. Mostly street use. It is a very good street/strip converter. Very tight for around town driving. But if you romp on it, the RPMs flash to 3500RPM on the nose and stay there before climbing with speed.

Do give them a call. Nice people who want to make sure their product will suit your needs. Trust me, your already paying the pretty-penny, so use what they offer in the phone consultation. Just have as much information about your setup available before you call.

Also, let them know if nitrous is in order, and how much.

Ahh, Manual VB questions.

The shift is pretty hard if your RPM is above the converter stall point. I drive my car like a clutched manual most times, letting off of the gas part way in order to shift.

I busted a 2ndary sprag once. Most tranny builders will look at you funny for running a full manual VB in a street car. I don't know if even telling them is of importance or not. I doubt they can adjust any of the line pressures.

Yes I footbrake only for 4 yrs running, in our no/electronics class we cannot use a transbrake, it does seem that more and more no/e classes are allowing them though. I've had good luck with the ATI converter, its been in the car for a couple years now, served its purpose while it was more street with the old motor, gonna step up to the 8" converter and see how many more parts I can break :D I'm trying to improve the e.t. on the front half as it seems to be making decent power on the backhalf. At this point I've made no mechanical improvements to the motor, I wanna do the converter swap, see how much improvement over last fall, then heads, antiroll bar, and then....does it ever end ;)
