I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm installing the Dynamat in the next week or two, then I need to wire the car and hook up the electronics. That's where I could use some experience. The engine harness is all ready to go and the ECM is pre-tuned. However, I have no idea what should have relays or how to tap everything properly into the new American Autowire harness. I'll figure it out, but really want to do it correctly the first time.

If anyone is in the Baltimore/Pasadena/Severna Park area of Maryland and wants to help wrench on H.S. Sweetheart, it would be much appreciated. I pay in really good food and :beers:!

Thanks guys! I hate wiring!! I'll throw down beads all day long with a welder, make just about anything out of metal, bolt up suspension, brakes, engines, transmissions, but wiring and electronics? blah

Lol, come on Aaron, come on out!!

Dave,

65 Chevelle 2dr post with an all aluminum 5.3L, 243 heads, LS2 intake and rails. Engine harness was custom built by one of Travis Engle's ("daytonayellaz") dudes. Uses re-programmed stock ECM. It's all labeled and already connected to motor. I just need to install the AAW harness in the car and connect it to the engine harness. No relays though. I'll have to get those. Going to be running a gen V camaro fuel pump, twin fans, and ignition. Heard some folks have a relay specifically for the ECM... Might be bad info though.

I'm in Pasadena, Maryland.

I'm in Crofton. I'd be glad to lend you a hand, wiring is my specialty, but since my 72 is about to hatch after 6yrs in my garage it will have to be after the 27th of June. That's the MD Chevelle Club show in Northeast MD, and I am in crunch mode to finish it for the show.

Dan,
I used a harness from PSI Conversion it completely stand alone from the AAW harness. I only had to land like 5 wires from it. Have u figured out what you are going to use for gauges? I switched to all electric autometers cuz my tach and speedo do read through the ecm. You def going to need some relays.

Awesome, thanks man, I'll give you a call! Shoot me a PM with your contact info. Right now I'm re-routing my brake lines and fabricating a bracket for the clutch master cylinder. The driver side header hits the brake lines right now.

Once I'm done with that, I'm going to install the Dynamat, then I'll be ready to wire. Probably mid to late July if you're available.

I'll have to check out that show and meet some of the Chevelle club members. It's this weekend huh?

Tim,

Definitely let me know when you're in the area!

Dave,

I'm going to use Dakota Digital VHX gauges.

I spoke to my engine harness builder. He says to wire the car normally. He builds the harness so that there are only 3 wires that have to be connected through the fuse block. That's it (he says). Already has a relay built into the harness for the fuel pump. Says I probably only need one more relay for the fans.

Dan, Definitely come to the show. There is a club member that lives in Glen Burnie that may be able to help and he is a top notch mechanic, his name is Fred Gillis, try to talk with him if you can.

Slow since it's been so hot lately. Can't spend too much time in the garage with this humidity and these temps. Might try to start installing the Dynamat tomorrow morning. Once that is done, it's time to wire her up. Not too much left. Wiring, electronics, a few odds and ends on the engine (throttle body, a few sensors), exhaust, fuel system (Rick's tank and one -6 fuel line to run), and radiator/cooling system. Then it will be ready to fire up.

Worst thing left for me is the wiring and electronics since that is not my forte. That's what I need help with the most.

Which tank did you decide to use?

As for wiring, all I can offer is take your time. Make it neat. Label things. If you are doing something other than stock harness, I would make a diagram for future use. I did that on mine and it was so worth it when I changed dash to Dakota digital VHX.
