Freind on mine needs his done. Dealer wants $225 to do it. I've done alot of brake jobs on all of my cars (mostly GM) and told him I could probably do it alot cheaper. Before I commit to it, is there anything tricky about a 04' cadillac?

Nothing special.Calibers ride on caliber mounting brackets. You can take out one pin and swing the caliber up if only slapping pads.If you are resurfacing the rotors, then you have to remove the caliber mounting brackets and the torx that holds the rotor to the hub.Easy job either way, though I do recommend the resurface.$225 isnt too bad, especially if GM pads are being used.

Im seeing ads on TV for GM delco ceramic pads, at GM dealerships installed for 75 bucks. Goodwrench TV ads all over my TV. Why on earth would the CTS be exempt from that advertised deal?

i like doing brake jobs on late models- they are all usually the same.. a couple of bolts and the caliper comes off.. a couple more bolts, and the caliper bracket comes off, which allows the rotor to fall off.

Iam a tech at a Cadillac dealer. The $75 brake job is a leader. It does not include OEM pads or rotor resurface. The ploy is to get you in and upgrade.Of course you didnt hear it from me!The ceramic pads squeal and I would not recommend them.I have as daily drivers,an 06 Northstar SRX for my wife, and an 03 k2500HD for myself.I have always used GM replacement parts, and have had very good luck. This goes for all my GM vehicles,as thats all I buy.

BTW, at Autozone there is about a $20 diff between pads w/ some rubberized shims and pads alone. These shims work better than what comes on the car?

Use CRC anti squeal if you have a problem.Spray it on the pad backing, let it dry and install. We have had an awful time with the rear pads on the new CTS squeaking and the latest tech tip was this.A number of cars are out a few months now,so I would venture to say it has worked. There is also a black liquid product that you actually soak the pad with.I have used BG and MOC under the name squeak stop. That works well but did not stop the new modle CTS problem.I like OEM pads on my driver cars because they give a good balance of stoping, wear, and noise quality.A lot of aftermarket pads excell in one catagory and not the other. Some are so hard that they will wear out the rotors very fast .OEM:thumbsup:
