Anyone ever bought an engine from them? Or heard anything good or bad about them? I bought a complete pump gas 582 of theres through Competition Products. Was already built to someone elses specs as a pump gas 10.1 comp. street motor, but the prices was right for a compete carb to pan crate motor so I went ahead & bought it. I just reluctantly shipped it back to them as every intake valve was hitting the eyebrows of the valve pockets in the pistons. Luckily only 1 valve was bent. I discovered this when I took the heads off to have a local guy do some porting & shave them down to bring compression up a little. Looks like a case of the pockets not being sized for a 2.300 intake valve. But after running a center punch down through the guide & marking the piston then measuring of that mark there is plenty of clearance. Looks more like the piston is rocking in the bore. Has a 4.375 stroke with a 6.385 rod & custom Manley flattops. I wondering if it is to short of a rod. Piston to wall clearance looks good at .005 on all but one cylinder #7 at .012. Which is weird because that one just barely hit. They are offering to repair it & cover the shipping & do any upgrades that I want at minimal cost if it is something that they caused. I cant see how it could of been anything I did. If the valves hit the tops of the pistons then it could have been from soft springs or an over rev but they are hitting the radius of the pockets. I did hear from them friday & they said they are going to take care of it, but I wasn't able to speak with the owner to find out what they are going to do yet. Will find out more tomorrow.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking I should either go to a 4.250 stroke & keep the 6.385 rods & make it a 565 or have them change to a 6.535 rod. for a better rod to stroke ratio & a more stable piston.
