guy down the street has one out of a 67 chevy truck with the cast side mount bell housing. Top loader with tthe stick still attached. His dad swapped a automatic in the truck and selling the tranny for 25 bucks with the bell housing, (remember sidemount).
I know I should just walk away, but for the price it just seems like something to pickup. But trying not to be a hoarder. jim

believe that trans is the muncie 465 - it was used in a lot of trucks including ups ones.
there is a market for the aluminum bellhousing - farm types need them for their
irrigation pumps - a machinist guy i know here has started building vortec 4.3's, 350's and 454's for farm irrigation pumps. he needs all the bellhousings he can find - mainly 73-87 truck types. also 86 up flywheels, alt brackets, two groove crank pulleys, starter bolts, etc.

If you fish much you may want it, for an anchor... I don't think anyone in this century would have much use for it.
So unless you specifically have a use for it I'd pass.

Put lightly, if this were June of 2012, I would have given you a grand for it. One of my customers has a 78 C20 that I just put a ZZ4 in lost the front bearing on his and EXPLODED the case.

You just need a guy in need. No one is going to buy it to put it on the shelf, but a guy in need would pay just about anything. I wound up going M21 on my guys truck and when the dust settled and I finally got my lift back, his wallet was $2400 lighter, and I made a huge $700 for having his truck here for five weeks.

Im definetly going to pass. As heavy as the thing is i could probably sell it for 20 bucks in scrap metal if i recycled. I just thought it was a good price even though i have no use for it. Ive got 4 th350s in the shed because they were cheap ($20 or less).

it's likely a SM420, production run was 1947 to 1967
6.05 to 1 first gear, non syncro first as well, clunkie shift from 3rd to 4th
I buy all the ones I can find that are local
it's an excellent tranny for the 4x4 scene due to the low first gear (I own a 4x4 shop)
buy it and flip it to a 4x4 guy, use to coin to buy a better car tranny
sm420 and sm465 have different bellhousing hole diameter as well as a weird bolt arrangement
the bellhousing is also worth some coin to the 4x4 guys
the tranny sucks for fast shifting.

I've run one since 1996 in my FJ40 Land Cruiser so I have a few miles worth of experience
