I am in the process of putting my motor back together. Its a small block chevy 434". Its a 90% drag 10% street motor. Has high compression with a stout roller cam. The motor had a gear drive when I bought it. On monday im ordering either a chain or a belt drive. Need some advice. Comp cams makes 2 different types. Xledyne makes a nice one(I like) sold by cv products, thier is jesel and a buddy has a edlebrock one. Then about 20 different chains.Im leaning to the belt drive and would like to hear some good and bad? Thanks in advance. My block is a bowtie with std cam location short deck.

While a chain will do an excellent job & is far less money there is no question that the belt drive is the preferred piece.
The Xceldyne is a nice unit but is the new kid on the block & has gone through a few changes & upgrades since it introduction a couple of years ago.
Not sure they are done yet
For a belt my choice would be Jesel, I don't think you will hear a bad word about them.
I can't say the same for some other brands.
I have been using & selling them for quite a while & they are a very high quality piece.
While I sell all three of the major ones this is something I would prefer not to save a couple of bucks on so I would recommend staying with the guys that have the best track record
Look on 99% of the cup cars etc & see what you find.
These guys do not buy on price, they buy for reliability
They also have a cool aluminum cover to protect them for your application if you want one.
If you email me I would be glad to help if I can on which ever one you prefer
