I had a problem with my alternator shorting out. I replaced it but the needle is now pointing straight down. It did this once before when the dash was out for restoration and I simply took the guage out of the cluster and re oriented it. Is there any other way to correct this problem without taking the dash out? Thanks,Scott!

Sometimes, and I have to stress "sometimes", they will right themselves back to the 12 o'clock position. If not, you can remove whatever necessary and move the needle back to the correct position by hand. Not sure if it will stay there....these behave funny sometimes. Mine did the 6 o'clock deal for a while, then worked correctly. It still swaps positions from time to time.
