I have a 70 chevelle with an SS dash with gauges. All of the wiring is stock. I have read from Autometer.com that the ammeter is not the preferred method to keep dabs on the charging system. And if the alternator us upgraded to a higher amp, there is a possibility of a fire. If I understand correctly, the current has to pass directly through the dash and ammeter gauge. My question is if I should go through all the work to disconnect the dash ammeter gauge for saftey and reliability reasons. If so, how would the cleanest and most stock appearing should I modify the wiring to eliminate the ammeter gauge? Thank you
