I've had my chevelle running for a few weeks now and have enjoyed driving it around. It's been a real learning experience for me. I never knew there were so many fast cars around. For instance, I just left a local parts chain where the manager, after seeing my car, told me about his '73 Charger with a "dominator", "a special intake that uses (four) seperate 4-barrel carbs" and that is his daily driver with street tires that runs 9's in the 1/4. I told him that he must be very proud and then left with my light bulbs.:) Funny though, he didn't drive the car today.

well theres a lot of fast cars out there, i just saw them at pinks all out, everything from what looked like a beater vw, that ran 9's to a stock looking new camaro that clicked off a 12 flat...

but the reality is most 10 second cars are 14 second cars, so unless you have a time slip with ya, i really don't want to hear it.

every time i go into the local kragen's, i've gotta hear the guy behind the counter tell me about the 455 gto he has. nobody has ever seen this car, but he has one.

i once had a 56 chevy that my dad drove into the high 11's, and i had a barracuda i drove into the low 12's, but without proof, the only person it matters to is me.

i love talking to people about cars, except when it's some blow hard just trying to one up me. the fasted car i ever drove went 9.48 at 148, it wasn't streetable, and didn't have anywhere near the technology available today. i've seen a lot of 9 second street cars, but few of the people running 9's ever cop to it, the whole idea is to look street, till the lights hit, then you just leave them in the vapor trail.

if a guy walks up and tells you he runs 9's, he's probably f.o.s..... because a guy who really runs 9's, wants your $, and won't give up that info till after he blows your doors off...

there is always going to be that one guy that tells you about his car that is faster than yours, but it's got too much power to be driven on the street legally..

I always claim that my car is slow. Then no wanna-be racers seem to have any interest in it. When I'm talking about dirt bikes, I say I suck horribly.
There is always somebody out there better and faster than you, so I don't ever brag or say anything. I just keep my mouth shut, and enjoy what I have. :)

You know, it's the same with hot boats (performance/drag style boats). I have a jet boat with a very healthy 420SB. When the dragboat races came to Okla City on a regular basis many years ago, I worked with the rescue boats during the races so I became quite familiar with what was an 80mph, 120mph and 200mph boat. It's amazing when I go to the lake for the day, how many guys with this kind of boat will claim their boat runs 100-120+mph, but if you are familiar with these boats, you can tell they're FOS!
Your basic hot boat with a moderate 454/big 4bl carb will do REAL GOOD to see 85-90mph.

Very true, but there are exeptions to every rule. If you ever run into the guy that likes to talk smack and can back it up, well you might have just got your door blown off again.:D

My buick runs 9s and I can hold the front wheels off the ground all day long just by using the throttle.

Here in Phoenix it is pretty common to see actually fast street driven cars. Even cars driving around with their parachutes connected. You get all types of b.s.ers, quiet ones, and ones that love to brag and actually back it up. Usually the way to tell is in the details, asking how they did certain things. But a grudge match at the track is always fun.
