If I oversize my alternator, say with like a 180 amp late model GM unit, will I screw up my battery? I am planning on adding electric fans, a Vintage Air unit, and an electric water pump and fuel pump. I'd like to have the extra amperage, but I don't want to cook my battery. Anyone had any experience with this?

That's what the regulator is for. To keep things from getting cooked.
Internal or external, they do the same thing. Make sure your alternator has a good internal regulator.

Excellent - thanks guys. I figured as much, but I remember reading on here about someone who was having troubles with their battery bubbling over because it was being overcharged.

I definitely need some more juice if I'm going to be running all the electric stuff I want to run, and I figure I ought to throw it in now while I'm still trimming out the engine compartment. Just didn't want to cook anything in the process.
