i have installed an internal reg. alternator from a second generation camaro...
this works great,, but the wires are now on the bottom of the alternator...
can i just remove the through bolts and rotate the back housing and re-install the through bolts without messing it up???

I doubt you can take the screws out and turn it without one of the springs popping out of the brush assembly. Take the screws out and carefully seperate the two halves, the stator is attached to the half that does NOT have the pulley on it. Two little springs will pop out of the brush holder, no problem! Put them back in place, you should have no problem seeing where they go. There is a small hole in the brush holder and that if for a small drill, toothpick, whatever makes you happy to hold the brushes and springs in place until you put the two halves back together. Note that there is a hole in the case for the drill or whatever to fit through and the idea of that is that once you get it back together then you remove the drill to release the brushes. No magic there! You can do it!
