the alternator in my 95 sierra only seems to work well after i hose it off. After a day of 4 wheelin, the my alternator seems to stop charging consistantly. it would go between 9 and 12 volts. so i hose off the engine to see if i can see anything. problem solved. well now it has been starting to happen again, so i just throw some water on it, works ok (only 12-13 volts). Time to replace this thing?

thanks in advance

I'd at least pull it and have Kragen or Autozone check it (free). At 13 volts something isn't working. Also you may have a battery issue. 9 volts looks like a dead battery.
