well its not a chevelle question but my question is i have an 80 chevy truck with a 350 in it and my volts gauge is reading about 17.what is causing it to charge so much and what can i do to fix it or should i just leave it alone.thanks matt

First think to do is to check to see if the gauge is correct. Try a meter across the batt to see what is is charging at. Perhaps regulator if charging at 17V? Another suggestion is to take it to an auto parts store and let them check the charging system. Easy and free most of the time.
