Well I have a new addition to the stable. I picked up this gold 72 last night. It has been sitting outside since 2003 and unfortunately water got into it and the interior is toast, I don't quite know yet where the water comes in but that is one of the first things on my list to fix. It is a complete car including A/C, 350 2bbl and THM350, basically a California sister to my Baltimore car.

My 10 year old son encouraged me to buy it, I probably paid a little more than I should have but the body is solid, with the exception of rear window rot and a trunk pan, because it was an Arizona car until 1998. The trunk rusted out because a bag of fertilizer was left in it.

This will be my son's car one day on the condition that we have a father - son project and he learns about it and is very involved in the restoration. He wants to enter and win car show Young Buck competitions. He wants to be like his dad and own a 72, now he has the chance. Since I became a father to spend this time with him is one of the greatest joys I have been looking forward to.

Now my 5 year old daughter is pestering me for an El Camino and my wife wants a convertible, I need a bigger garage.

Here are some pictures he snapped last night.

With that 2bbl carb in place after all these years, it is a sign that there are few modifications by previous owners--very good. Yeah , even out here in the desert , water leaks can really do some damage. It does look like a really good starting point for your project. Congratulations on the find !

Thanks guys!

He is already pestering me about starting on it and it isn't even off of the trailer yet. He even asked if we could put it in the Carolina Chevelle Show on the 17th of this month, I love his excitement and energy.

Nice score!! My 11 year old son wants my 72 Chevelle for his first car :noway: I told him he can drive my 87 Chevy 4x4 truck to school and then we will see about driving the Chevelle.

Trust me, he will not drive it to school, it will stay in my name until he is able to care for it properly. His first DD will be something newer, that gets better mileage and with more padding (air bags).

Jonathan,
Like your new car, looks like a good project.
I was going to talk with you at the meeting on saturday about a 69 300 4 door that a man wants me to come look at. He has several old Chevys that he wants to sell but only one Chevelle.
See you on Saturday.

Bring it Jon!
We'll be there and Anne's doing the show pics again this year. I'm sure she'd be glad to document some "before" photos.
Might be the beginning of another family "hand me down". ;)

That might be doable Bill if I can keep the tools away from him, he wanted to get outside tonight and start tearing the interior out but it was too late, tomorrow is a different story. Let me think of the logistics, might just be worth leaving the 4 door home this year and let him have some fun. My Dad is going to be driving "his" car again to the show.

Nice looking project. Make sure you check the back window area for any rust and leaks.

That is awesome! I spent MANY a day and night in my father's garage working on cars together. A '55 Studebaker Commander...a '78 Porsche 924...Camaros, RX-7s etc. You are going to have some great times with your son, talking about life, girls, the future...

I envy you!
