I was wondering if there is enough room to get a set of autometer guages behind the '70 SS dash?? I wanted to keep the look of the dash and not have to make something to go in front of the dash to make them fit.
Well I bought a my dash on ebay for $25. It was not in the best of shape when I got it. On the bottom was a crack and a piece missing and the radio was cut out. I did what you mentioned and put a set of autometer ultra-lite gauges instead of the original cluster. I used the 2 1/16 and the in dash 3 3/8 tach and speedo. I had to trim the holes for the 2 1/16 gauges to get them to fit. As for the tach and the speedo the 5in is to big and the 3 3/8 is just a little to small. I took a piece of plexyglass and cut holes in it for the gauges and screwed the plexyglass in the holes for the orginal gauge cluster. here are some pics of them. gauges
Hope this helps
