A friend is asking, how would the new Brodix Race Rite Square port heads compare to the AFR 305 with the CNC chambers? The flow numbers he told me for the Brodix don't seem to be in the same league as the AFR's.

He has a 70 Chevelle and is concerned that the slightly raised AFR exhaust ports will get him into header clearance problems. He has the Hooker comp headers. Former small block car, so I'm not convinced he has the correct frame stands anyway.

Engine will be a 502 for what that's worth. He plans to use a street roller. Will be primarily a strip car, but will be street legal.

I have AFR heads on my '70 BB with Hooker Super Comp headers. Also, it is originally a 350 SB car.
NO problems with fitment (see sig)!

As long as it's not an A/C equipped car, the AFR's will work. I have the AFR 305's with hooker 2" comps with no problems. I did finally give in and removed the A/C box (didn't work anyway) from the firewall. With the A/C box, #8 plug is impossible to remove or install without removing the header.

Hi Ron,
Between the two the 305's hands down,,
The RR rect 290cc is essentially the oval with the intake opened & blended.
The oval & rect RR's will flow an honest 345-350 with the CNC chamber
The AFR with the CNC chamber will flow hi 360's with better low numbers.
These are on the same bench under the same conditions not advertised ones.
As the ex port is only raised .375 it is usually not an issue.

If you or he email me & I can probably save him a dollar or two on either
head ;)

Thanks Mike.
I knew you would know.
I believe the exh flow on the AFR's is WAY better as well.
My friend is quite simply a cheapskate......plain and simple. He shops price before performance. His comment was, "I can just get the Brodix heads ported later". Yeah, by who? Do they know how to port that head? And what will that cost? Why not buy the right head to start with?
Anyway, I have decided to quit arguing with him and let him do what he wants. He needs to find 7 tenths to catch up, so I'll let him buy whatever.

Another friend who has Canfields and is frustrated, is also considering the AFR's. I'll try to steer him your way.

BTW....friend #1 ran 10.94 tonight and he has ported Rect GM heads on a 468 with 3.31 gears........he does just fine W/O my advice. Although he does have a few of my old parts on his car...........carb, converter etc.
And...he has never entered the 21st century......no email!

Thanks again!

Ron
