OK!I just finished putting the POA and expansion valve on and everything now holds a leak test. I then decided to pull the compressor off to put new O-rings on and see how much oil is in it. I went to dump it into a cup and no oil came out. Shouldnt oil pour out of the compressor? If i need to replace the oil do I just pour it in the back of the compressor and how much does it hold? Its a 72 malibu. The system has been down for years. Wasnt even sure why the air did not work in the first place, so i just replaced the main things.

If it was me and I wasn't sure of the history of that compressor I'd replace it. To spend as much time and effort only to find a weak compressor isn't going to make your day.

Those A6 compressors have a sump, it is that bulge at the bottom of the compressor, there is a plug that you can take out to drain the oil. I would be inclined to agree that it would be a good time to replace it.

How much are new compressors usually? I might go ahead and see if this thing works or not. I put a leak down on it last night and it dropped some. What is the acceptable drop level or is there one. I ordered some stop leak so Im hoping it will help with any smaller leaks.

Just a word of advice - I am on my second rebuilt compressor - the seal in the front of these things leak as the shaft during a rebuild is not usually replaced. Classic Auto Air in Florida (813) 251-2356 - will do a custom rebuild on your compressor - they will change the shaft if needed - cost 140.00

A new one can be had for around 400.00.

I haven't tried Classics' rebuild service as I may splurge for a new one, however after speaking with them I think they are the ones to go with should you go rebuilt.

Hope this helps.
