Hey guys sorry if this is a stupid question ,but I have heard of guys using a three speed shifter on 4 speed trannys. All they had to do was make a seperate lever for reverse. My question is would it be possible to use a four speed shifter on a three speed trans. I was thinking it should work you just wouldnt have that extra gear to the right and rear of the shift pattern. Let me know what you guys think.

It could be done but you stand a chance of jamming the shifter as you could shift into the non-existent 'reverse' and be unable to get back to the 1-2 or 3-4 levers.
If you some how locked the reverse arm stationary in the neutral position ,it wouldn't be able to jam as above.
What 4 speed do you have that has reverse to the right and down?

It will work, you would have to lock the reverse lever of the shifter in the center position or the shifter will lock up.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Sorry mike I was not clear I was talking about fourth gear being right and down. My reverse is left and forward.
