The louvers in the A/C side ducts are loose and flop around. Any tips or tricks for tightening these? I don't want to buy the whole thing just for that. Just need to anchor the stem in the little notch to keep them aligned. If all else fails, I'll just super-glue them in the straight out position.

I hear ya! I have the same problem. I looked at the louver assembly and it appears as though the halves of the case which hold the blades in, is starting to separate. The resulting gap allows the louver blades to flop all over the place. When I get the rest of my dash apart, I will see if it can be fixed.

Ok, I'm bringing this one back up. I took my vents out of the dash, and i can see the plastic is separated that the louvers fit into, the vent assembly itself is staked/melted so you cant get the chrome barrel containing the louvers out. Is there any way to fix these short of super glue, so the louvers dont flop around? Thanks

Here's what I did. I had some black ABS plastic that I'm using for another project. It's about as thick as a plastic business card. Same as that Team Chevelle membership card Al sent ya! You can cut it with scissors. I cut two strips about 2.5" X 1" and inserted them from the back(inlet side)into the gap between the 3 horizontal louvers that move and the 2 vertical ones that don't. (Note: My dash is out of the car and the vents are out of the dash. When I did it, the 2 stationary louvers were horizontal.) Using long needle nose pliers, I wedged it in and pushed it forward until it pushed the louvers into the half circle notches. (Ya gotta snake it around the open-closed door but it will go) Then I super-glued the ABS into place. It's not great, but it works.
I don't see any other way to fix them short of cutting the housing open and that seemed like more trouble than it's worth to me.

I recently replaced all my vents when I redid my dash. The instructions with the new louvers said to carefully cut/pry the two halves of the duct apart, replace the louver (chrome) assemblies and the kit included superglue to put the halves back together again. I had to get some felt strips from Home Depot to glue into the duct to make the chrome louver housings tight in the duct (there was something like felt in there from the factory, but it had rotted away). The superglue sounds kinda' Bubba, but it actually worked great. My louvers look brand new and they have just the right amount of tension to keep from flopping around, but you can still reposition them easily.
