i believe even the last Malibus from 78-80 were also called "A" bodies. then, from 81 and on, they all went by the Monte Carlo body style designation of "G" body.. the last "A" bodied cars were the mighty Citation and all it's corporate cousins. but don't feel too bad about that- a Citation X11 was faster than a Camaro, and close to a Corvette..

this kind of reminds me of people with an Olds 350 asking if it's a "Rocket" 350..

According to anyone who owns one, it is. Seems like every doof who has an Olds 350 automatically promotes it to "Rocket" status. Heck, every Olds has a rocket emblem on it, so they're all rocket something or another. By that logic, I have a Bowite 350.

every Olds V8- up to and including the roller cam equipped 307 they put in cars in the 80's- was a "rocket" engine.
not sure about the diesels, tho..

I`m pretty sure those are "G" body`s in 78-80 as well. Not really up on those .

70-80 Monte Carlo and Grand Prix were called "G" bodies- they had a longer wheelbase than the "A" body Malibu, El Camino, Regal, LeMans, Cutlass, and whatever other "metric" nameplates i forgot.
when the Citation came out and was called the "A" body, all of the "metric" cars got thrown under the "G" body label until they quit making them after the 88 model year.

hmm.. my bad.. but what was the "A" body in the 80's?
or did they just drop that all together? i am sure, however, that the Citation replaced the Malibu- if you look at them from the front, they even kind of look alike.
but i'm pretty sure the 78-81 Malibu, Regal, Cutlass, and LeMans were all "A" bodies, they when they got redone and stretched out a bit, they all became "G"bodies like the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo if they weren't dropped altogether like the Malibu and LeMans.

I seem to remember that south side machine use to make "adaptor" rear control arms to fit the early "A" body rearend into "G" body cars from 78-up. I`ll have to do some checking but i`m pretty sure the 78-up malibu`s were G bodys.

That is correct. Currently own a 1980 Malibu coupe along with my 66SS. Most of the 78+ fans refer the 78 and newer cars as the G body anyways as to not confuse. But some of the books and manuals still reference the 78-81s as the A body.

According to GM, A body was the Malibu/Monte/Elky through 1981, then the A-body became the Celebrity, and the others became G-bodies.

Keep it. Sell it on ebay in 20 years as a Vintage A-body Chev for $3500. Then use the money to buy a $800,000 heap of a Chevelle.
