I picked up an 87 chevy 1/2 ton 2 WD with a 4.3 fuel injected V6 in. This is an overdrive truck. My question is, what transmission is under it? I'm assuming a 700R4, but not sure. Is so, is this trans. worth hanging on to? Thanks

I think 87 was the year they made improvements to the input shaft and valve body so if that's true Id hang on to it for a bit anyway.

It might have the aux. valve body in it as well.

If the trans has an ext. housing on it it is a TH700, If the case is all one piece and no ext. housing it's a 200r4. Yes on hang onto the tranny. Is that what u wanted to know?

If you have the whole truck ,look at the tag on the glove box door for the trans RPO code -believe it's MXO for the 700r4.
The 87 700r4 did have the aux. valve body and the improved input shaft.
