Hello everyone, this is my first post.

I have a 66 Chevelle with a 1970 455 Old engine, (I know - i bought it this way), that is balanced and blueprinted - with a 850 Holley Double Pump and Edelbrock Torker II intake. The carb is old and needs to be replaced (or rebuilt), but I am also considering going with a throttle body EFI on this big block. The 455, stock, has 400HP, i'm thinking that it es at least 500HP - .30 over, milidon pistons/rings, roller rockers, crane high lift cam, hooker headers with 3" flowmaster - the engine is RASW MSCL

do any of you have any good/bad luck stories with the throttle body? any recommendations for brands? I want to do it right. Also, if i did go with the TB, would you recommend a 750 or 850 (equivalent), based on the estimated HP? If I stayed with the Holley, would a 750 or 850 be the best fit?

Do you mean a throttle body EFI setup?

Hi Kevin, welcome....well I don't know anyone who has purchased a Torker in the last 30 years so like was said an upgrade to a Performer (no Airgaps listed for an Olds) would be good, the Torker is a single plane probably not really helping that motor.

If you have a stick the DP is good or if you have an automatic with a good stall converter. If it's a street car with a automatic and stock or low stall converter I would use a vac secondary carb. The EFI is good but expensive so unless you just think they're cool stick with the carb..JMO..

If I were you, I would only spend money on parts that would easily transfer to another type/style engine. On the other hand, if its built like you say, you could start checking out the different sites that cater to "Olds" powered cars. Another thought is a lot of boats have "Olds" motors in them. Dump it and put a BB in its place. Just my .02.

skip the efi and put an 850 quadrajet (try to find an Edelbrock 1910) on top of a Performer intake.

I second that one. I am sure there are people here who DO have Olds knowledge, but an Olds specific site would undoubtedly net you more accurate info.

My co-worker has a Pontiac w/ a 455... the Chevy small block stuff I know doesn't always translate easily into Pontiac.
