I would like to try a 650dp on my 327 nova, but I do'nt have a spare one to try. Is there a way I could get my 850 road demon dp to work good on the 327. I'm running a 350 turbo and 3:08 gears.

stick it on and run it ..read the plugs and jet it the direction it needs to go
It only pulls in the air it needs,,it is up to you to get the jetting right, and all the other stuff
16-24 inital advance and whatever total she is happy with. a dual plane like performer rpm will help also...

An 850 was what they used on the L88 and ZL1. The car will run with an 850 but will run a whole lot better with a 600 vacuum secondary. The 350 hp 327s ran the small Holleys and were far from dogs. Set up right, the old Q'jets are as good as any. They just aren't as macho as a big Holley.

I have the same 327 built mildly, when I was at SEMA, Holley recommend their 670 Avenger series, their comment was that most people over carb. I also ran a 11 second S10 running a 750 HP carb and that was more than enough carb. At the price of gas run as small as possible. Call Holley and get their opinion. Just my opinion !!

You guys :D
308's are good gears ..i have ran many mid 13 second passes with 308's with 327's and 350ci engines in daily drivers and get 20mpg if your foot aint in it....try some 229- 241 or 256's then you will be impressed with 308's.... especially if you do not have an OD trans.

Yes not the best for racing,,but for racing i always put in the 456's in the street car,, and for the big tire cars i run 514-543 gears.

and one of the best running 350's i had was sportin 1200cfm of carbs.
spark plugs were the same color as my wifes corollas plugs..all about seting it up right. and it would flat run with the 229 gears...still spank WS6's..sorry i am blabbbbing

600 cfm (Holley or Edelbrock) should be about right. 650 max.

The 850 will probably work, but not very well.

What are you using now?

I ran a 600 CFM Eddy on my .060 over 327 and I thought it was perfect. Switched to my 500 CFM two years back when gas was expensive the last time. Still fine....

I agree. I ran an 850 and a 750 on my 355 years ago and the car had much better bottom end with the smaller carb. Everyone uses the reasoning that quadrajets were huge and used on little engines. But they leave out that they worked because 1. They had tiny primaries to aid in low end 2. They were vacuum controlled secondaries so the engine only saw what it needed. You could put a equally size square bore carb and lose low end compared to a quadrajet.

I just picked up a nice little '66 nova ss with a 300hp, 327. The car will never see the drag strip, just a cruiser. It has this carb on it now Holley 4160, 600cmf http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0-80450/?rtype=10 with a'69 z/28 double plan intake. It has vacum secondaries and if I understand right, no jets or power valve in the secondary that can be changed. It has a flat spot in it now that feels like the motor is struggling to build power and accelerate. I thought a 650dp would be perfect. Or jet down my 850dp and try it. But I just need to spend some time tuning this carb and give it a chance.

Tom, low rpm crusing, punching it and going into a higher rpm. It was a bog as if something is holding it back.

I went from a 750 to a 650 on my big block 461, and everything improved -- better acceleration, better throttle response, better mpg. It's because it's a torque engine with 2.73's in back. The 650 fits the rpm range better.

Sure, it ran well with the 750, and I thought that it wouldn't be able to run any better, but the 650 was a huge improvement.
