I need to confirm that the 8.5" ring and pinion interchanges between all years for any GM vehicle. There was a change in the axle splines from 28 to 30 sometime in the 90's, but as far as I can tell there was not change in the R&P other than the reluctor for ABS.

Is it a fair statement to say that older gears can't work with the ABS but would still fit any 8.5" but that newer gears (with ABS) will work in older axles? Just want to know because a friend has a used set I want to buy from a late 90's truck.

what about the newer trucks with ABS?
or are you not counting them due to them being a slightly bigger ring gear? 8.6"?
and, just for clarification- the Impala wasn't the only car to have an 8.5 in them. Caprices, Roadmasters, 98's,and Fleetwoods all use the 8.5. yeah, i know- they are essentially the same car, but sometimes people don't realize these things.
