I have a 1970 2-door Malibu. Originally a 6-Cyl Powerglide car. It still has the original 10-bolt rear in it. I cannot find the numbers on the Passenger side axle tube. How do I easily tell if it is an 8.2 or a 8.5?

Thanks!

Although the 8.5 10-bolt came out in 1970, only the new Camaro used it initially. I think it was probably '72 when the Nova actually started using it, and it was phased in very late in the run for the '72 Chevelle line.

So would you recommend putting the money into rebuilding the 8.2 and adding gears and a posi unit....or searching for an 8.5 or a 12 bolt?

My set-up is a 357ci (probably 400-425hp) and a TH350.

Thanks!
