Hi,
I need help getting me 72 malibu running. I just put a new 350 crate motor in it and it has point ignition. The person who had it before had a bunch of pliced wire everywhere! I have it all wired up but when i went to start it the wire from the + side of the coil to the fuse box, which was red, completely fried up. I pulled the burnt wire out of the fuse box and replaced it but now when i start the car it starts in the on position of the key not the start position. and the starter would not stop running so i put a switch in the wire between the starter and the coil and now the starter stops when i switch it off but the coil runs really hot. I know i need some kind of resistor but dont know where.
Thanks,Steven

Steven, you need a ballast resistor to drop the voltage to 8 volts, I believe you can use the aftermarket type, or you can purchase a Pertronics 12 volt coil, that requires 12 volts, you can also use a HEI dist since it uses 12 volts I hope this helps, Bill
