Re: Help A Fella Out. Please.

Don't have figures for the specs for the 70 stripes are in the factory Assembly Instruction Manual so I assume they'd be there in the 72 manual as well. AIM's are on eBay all the time in the $25-$30 range and are a nice item to have.

I agree with Ryan, get a good stencil kit to do them the correct way. Incorrect stripes are a pet peeve of mine.

Spend a little extra and get the kit.:yes:It is money well spent. You will be glad you did. I too hate to see incorrect stripes. It will stand out like a sore thumb even if it's just a little bit off.:beers:

Re: Help A Fella Out. Please.

Does anyone have the measurements for the hood and deck stripes for a 72 chevelle.

Johnnie,

After April 1970, the width of the larger stripes were supposedly changed. On the early 70's they were 10.64 inches wide on the hood and deck and narrowed to 9.63 inches after April 1970.

Pre-April 1970 Pin stripes were .30 inches wide on the hood and the deck. Post-April 1970 Pin stripes were the same at .30 inches wide.

Too ensure those numbers are correct, do what the other members suggested and purchase an AIM. Several vendors that sell those stencil kits specify they are for Post-April 1970 cars, which I feel are the narrower stripes vs. the wider ones, and those vendors specify they differ as well.

I recently purchased a stencil kit that was advertised for 1970-1972 Chevelles. Prior to ordering it, I called the vendor and I had him physically measure his stripe kit for MY car and he told me it was 10-5/8 inches wide. Knowing that, if the Post-April 1970 striped cars were in fact 9.63 inches wide, then that stripe kit would be incorrect for them.
Do your homework.

I also measured my wide stripes on my 1970 SS (assembled and delivered to me in February 1970), and that number comes in at 10-5/8 inches wide.

(I also suggest that you edit the subject line for your question as Chris recommended, so you'll receive additional input).

Hope that helps! :)

Respectfully,
John R.

Re: Help A Fella Out. Please.

This is a very interesting drawing...shows rounded inside corners, and the stripe on the rear filler stopping before the rear window molding or covertible top molding.
your right,interesting....My '72's stripes disappear INTO the RW molding AND my corners are rounded only on the trunk lid,The hood has the sharp inner corners.
I thought that maybe my trunk lid was repainted @ some point but couldn't see why, maybe not?
