I have a 71 SS Elky Hugger Orange. I want the SS stripes on the hood, my question is should I attampt to paint them myself or take it to a paint shop? I have the stencil kit, compressor & most air tools. I am very comfortable working on most aspects of my car but I have never painted with an airbrush!!! If you have paint / stripe experience I would appreciate youe help!! Any advice and instructions is welcome. Thanks!

Jump in and do it! use wax & grease remover to get your old wax off. Lay out the stencil kit, scuff with a red scotch brite in the area you want the paint to stick. This includes the edges real close to the tape. Cover the rest of the car and start painting. Do a search on painting if you not familar with it. Oh, you'll need to set the airbrush down and pick up a paint gun for this job.

When I did mine, I screwed up some of the thin line tape then at the end, I didn't have enough. I had to splice in the stuff I messed up with. I didn't have any fine line tape that thick. thought the 1/4 inch stuff I had lying around would work but no go. Use a spray gun for this. dont build up tons of paint on the edges, I like to pull the mask shortly after I paint it be careful not to pull the stripes off. when pulling the tape, use an extreme angle in the direction your pulling the tape this will "cut" the paint so it dose not peel as easy. Measure 5 times and paint once. U do this and all will go well.. For the big stencles, I like to stick them to my jeans or shirt too catch some fuss so they dont stick as well to my base color. this makes it better to keep the paint on the car..
