I'm going to convert my chevelle dash to an SS tack set up. I'm having trouble finding a harness without breaking the bank. I have been told that it is possible to modify the existing harness to work on the SS set up. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could get the information. Thanks.

It depends on what harness you have currently. Do you have the sweep dash or the round idiot light dash.

The round idiot light dash is easier to convert.

Right here in the electrical forum, do a search, a ton of threads on this.

Look up Elree Colby. He helped me with mine. At the very least you need the printed circuit connector.

I have the Chevelle sweep dash now. I know there is a kit to convert the idiot to a guage system but I was told that a sweep could be altered to work on a guage dash.
That sounds like a lot of cutting and splicing wires. I changed my sweep dash to a round dash with lights and had to change the fuse box harness.

First, A 72 harness (I'm told will not work in a 70-71, however I have been told that some people have made it work. My 71 only has air, radio, bone stock. I probably will have to buy a harness but was hoping that with alittle work I could make the sweep harness work. Someone I know (not a friend) told me he has done it a couple of times. I have not asked him how much he would charge to do mine because I'm not at that point now and won't be there for quite some time.

You CAN make a 72 harness work in a 71. I have done it myself and have pics to prove it.

How i did mine was to purchase the harness first. Then i came on here and asked a bunch of questions. A week later i was done. This was done while working 60 hrs a week with a wife.

Hey Bubba. I wish I had heard from you before I sold a very good 72 harness because everyone I talked to said either it would not work or that it would be very hard to make it work. Now I'm looking for another harness
