I am attempting to put a 70 SS dash with gauges into a 71 Malibu sweep gauge. I have the wiring harness for the SS dash Every thing works except for the tach, and i can not get the Alt,fuel and temp gauge to power up when key is on. All sending units check ok.Also high beam indicator light will not go out when key is on ,high beams work. How do you hook up tach to work. Thanks

Checked all fuses, ive got voltage to all fuses except the small one at the bottom of the fuse block.it is dead. The label states gauges. It is a dark green wire and it looks as if it goes to the ignition switch plugs up at the top of the steering column.

That small one will only have voltage when the headlight switch is on.
Back up a step:
Check and see if you have 12 volts to a known good ground on the gage wires. Believe it's a pink wire. The key needs to be on.

Checked the gound it appears that i have a good ground. What i did find that using a test light i checked the amp gauge and found that the light in the test light is very dim. I checked the fuel gauge and temp and they are dead. The gauge pod is new so all gauges are new along with the circuit board.

Scratch the fuse clips on the fuseblock and measuse those to a good ground. Don't touch the metal part of the fuse while doing this. Have the key on. Still think the fuse or fuses involved are the lower 2 on the right hand side.
Not concerned about the ammeter but the other 2 gages should be getting power with the key turned on.

Can you tell me if a 70 harness is the same as a 71? I have noticed that on the plug going to the pod and circuit board there are a few blank spaces. The harness is used and bought off ebay. What is the difference between a gauge and idiot light dash harness.I must also tell you that my car is a A/C car ,the harness was not,i removed the Blk with white stripe wire that was plugged into the fuse for heat and A/C and replaced it with the brown wire leading to the a/c harness. Thanks for the help.

Just found out my harness is for an idiot car and not a gauge car. Purchased a M&H harness and wow the harness is set up for console or not , and A/C or not. You cant go wrong on this one, but good luck to those who are re wiring or switching to an SS dash as M&H is over 10 weeks back logged on work. Thanks for all the help!!!!
