I have owned my 71 for about 3 years and have never noticed this happening before. I was filling up my 71 chevelle the other day and I usually wait to listen for the "whooshing" noise of the gas getting close to filler neck. Or else the new fanged gas pumps don't "see" my tank is full and shuts off. Well I was semi-distracted by a female walking out of the gas station and didn't notice my "whoosh" warning. It starting spewing fuel out the fill neck. I got out a towel and cleaned up the neck and the license plate and the metel under the bumper. I had a very short drive home (maybe 1/2 mile) and I put the car in the garage. I then mowed my yard for about 25 minutes. I went to put the mower back and noticed a puddle under my car. I got under my car to take a look. I had a drip coming off the front driver side cornor of my tank. It was dripping a drop every few seconds and had made a decent sized puddle. It ate all my paint off my tank. There also seemed to be a small line (not sure if it is fuel or a vent) that obviously had gas collected on it just above the cornor where the leak was at. I cleaned off all the gas and took it for a short 5 mile drive around town to see if I could lower the gas in case it was in the filler tube.
I got home and parked the car. I checked it 30 minutes later. I could see where it may have dropped a drop or two, but no puddle like before.
I'm not sure how these tanks lines are ran and where the vents are. I know the neck to tank connections are known to have issues, but I think that leak would show near the rear of the car not on the front side of the tank. Ideas? I'm a little worried about this one. That drip is near my exhaust.

Randy,
It probably just ran all down the side of the tank when you overfilled it. Then when you parked it all dripped off the lowest spot. If it hasn't been leaking, and does not leak any more it should be ok.
