A 70 SS that was originally equipped with an open element air cleaner (non cowl induction) used a low rise intake. The breather tube pointed toward the heater box and used a curved hose that connected to the 90 degree fitting installed in the valve cover. Not the one shown in post #10. The straight hose pictured there was used with the 69 and earlier tall intakes.
70SS Valve cover breather question...
I did do a search and could not find my answer. Bought a GM NOS 90 degree elbow for the passenger valve cover to replace the non-standard breather can the PO had on there. The elbow is 1 inch and the receiver on the bottom of my open element air cleaner is 3/4. Wondering if there is an adapter I am missing to connect the two? I was thinking of just sliding a 3/4 inch hose on the air cleaner and maybe the 1 inch hose from the elbow will slide over it. I looked at OPGI and other parts stores to see if I could get a 1 inch air cleaner adapter, but no luck. Thx...

zookeepers is correct that the original style open air cleaner will not work with a Holley double pumper. The vent tube contacts the rear accelerator pump. Many people removed the vent tube and plugged the hole then installed a push in breather in the valve cover. I did this back in the 80’s and threw the vent tube away, wish I had kept it.
