Saginaw 4 speed with original shifter, rods and "bayonet" style shifter handle.

In good useable condition.

What is it worth?

.0825 Lb. here today.

I bet someone would give a couple of hundred bucks for it.
I bet you're wrong, unless they didn't know what they were buying... :D

I would guess more $100-150. Yeh, I know these were not used with any high performance cars but not everybody is running high horse power. I would think for someone that needed one for a "driver" Malibu it would be worth more than scrap.

There was one on a local classic car/parts auction this summer and I think it went for 400 from what I remember. I thought that was a bit high.

Let me know if anyone else has opinions.

I think the Saginaw 4 speeds used in the Monzas and Vegas were weaker versions.

In the first gen Camaros the Saginaw 4 speed was used for the L6, 307, 327, and low horsepower 350s.

They were also used in some Malibus, and much of the Chevrolet passenger cars with lower horsepower ratings.

Since a lot of people think these are "junk" - I don't think they are, they have there usage - could they be getting hard to find since a lot may have been turned in for scrap?

Don't get me wrong. I would not put this behind a 400+ hp engine.

OK, call me crazy. Here is what I bought for $125. I will offer it to my son's friend for the same price I paid, and not even charge the gas money it cost to go get it.

Saginaw 4 speed from a 1978 Malibu, original shifter and rods, handle, and knob. Plus a 366861N flywheel in decent condition, 462606 bellhousing and inspection cover, clutch fork, bell crank and rod, 10.5 inch clutch and pressure plate. Clutch and pressure plate are worn and probably only good as return for "core" if anyone charges for them.

Yeh, I know - it's not a Muncie. But not everyone needs one.

Was that a decent deal or not?

My friend ran a saginaw in a 72 Nova SS with a fairly decent 396. He beat the $#@t out of this poor car and never did blow the tranny. This was 15-20 years ago. The car never did hook up so maybe thats what kept the saginaw alive.

I had a saginaw 4 speed in my Chevelle. 25 years ago. Car ran 13.70 back then. I still have it and it still works. Cant be all that bad. Someone that has a stock 283 or 327 that trans would be fine. Should be worth 150.00 all day long.
