I've been reading about this transmission as swap for the th350 currently in my 78 El Camino. I have seen several used trans that came out of cars with small engines (v-6 camaro for example). Assuming I get one from an '89 or later (non electronic) vehicle which are said to be more stout,would these work well behind my 350 block with mild cam, headers? Or, should I look for one out of a larger vehicle like a Caprice or pickup? Are the 700r4s the same internally for the above examples?

The v/6 camaro tranny's won't work. The 2.8/3.4's used a different bellhousing. 4.3l trucks have the same bellhousing as v/8s though.

I suspect the 4.3L trannies have the v6 internals, though.

You want a V8 tranny.
