I have a 1988 700r4 that shifted extremely quick - in OD by 35 mph under easy acceleration. I was shifting it manually and all felt fine. I finally tested the line pressure and found that at 1k rpm in park I had 180lbs instead of 80lbs, and as I moved the tv cable pressure didn't change. I took the valvebody apart and it already has the aux spring to keep the plunger moving - I didn't see anything easy that looked funny.

Any ideas of where I should check next?

Did you have someone open the throttle a few times while you had the pan off to see if the plunger moves?

It sounds like you broke the TV cable or it came unhooked from the transmission.

TV Valve stuck in the VB, not the plunger or plunger spring, but the smaller valve more inboard. I have seen them intermittently stick, maybe once every 20 strokes, but once stuck they remain there.

Before you remove VB, start up engine, rev slightly, and with TV cable removed from carb pull out completely and release about 20 times, Reattach and test.
