Hey all. I found a 70 underdash 8-track player that was a dealer option (thanks to those that helped me with the numbers). I currently have the stock reconditioned AM/FM radio for my 70. i haven't purchased the unit yet ... does anyone know how this hooks upto the original wiring harness? The guy said he has the mounting brackets for it .. where exactly does it mount (just left of the ashtray maybe?)

I'm running 2 original front speakers with the unit. I know it wont sound the greatest but think it would be cool to have an 8-track in the car to play some old zepplin!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I talked with the guy and he said I will require the connector that goes from the 8-track (Long plug) to the radio ... anyone know where I can get this connector?

Dave,

I know for certain that the 8 track was available in the radio as my 70 El Camino SS 396 has an indash AM/FM Stereo with the 8 track player. I don't know for certain if it was a dealer option or not. My 71 Buick GS convert. had the 8 track mounted under the dash with the Buick name on the door where the tapes went in.

The factory installed versions were revised for 1970 by integrating the cartridge opening into the faceplate or dial. Definitely the 8-track was offered as a dealer-installed accessory separately mounted below the dash however.

There used to be a very knowledgeable radio tech member on this site, 'Coppertop' aka Joe Hubka. I think he just didn't have the time to devote to radio tech here, but he did leave lots of good stuff archived on this site. The last e-mail I had for him was [email protected] . If you could reach him I bet he could offer you some assistance on finding or creating a connector for that 8-track.
