I'm planning to have my guages speedo and tach redone (faded). Can someone give me an overview of this process before I start unbolting everything to remove them? Thanks in advance for any tips.

Pull the dash pad off and remove the entire gage cluster. Once you get it out, you will see how it comes apart. it's fairly simple.
You may have to unbolt the dash and pull it back toward you to make room to get the cluster out.

Take off dash pad.
Disconnect parking brake handle.
Lower steering column a few inches - make sure you support the column.
Remove screws holding heater controls - cables will hold this in place.
Remove screws that are underneath dash panel at the corners above vent doors.
Remove panel screw just above steering column.
Remove 2 attaching screws at the sides near the stereo radio speakers.
Support the dash at both ends and then remove 2 attaching screws in the center of dash.
Use a second set of hands because the weight is at the ends.
Tilt panel toward you and start disconnecting the wire harness at the instrument cluster.
Disconnect speedo and wire harness at printed circuit board.
Pull plug at cigar lighter and unscrew barrel of lighter and remove ground wire ring.
Remove 2 screws below instrument cluster ground straps.
Disconnect radio power and speaker connector and antenna.
Disconnect glove box light, headlight switch wire, wiper switch wire.
Support panel at each end and remove carefully.
Headlight switch is removed by depressing button on back of switch and removing front knob. Then remove retaining collar on front to remove switch assem.
Remove clock stem screw and remove knob. Remove 5 screws on instru. cluster and cluster is now accessible.

Reassembly is obviously in reverse of all of this.

Take your time, get a helper and you should be fine.
