I don't know if it's a real SS but the prices on these cars seem to be going crazy. Some cars you can see are pieces of junk and the people think they have Gold. After looking at the pictures no way would I spend that kind of money on that car. The seats are out of a 71 or 72 Chevelle and if you look at the car the outside looks nice and shiny but the rest of the car is far from being up to par. I'd say $20 to $25k tops.

Looks like it has a real SS dash.
I don't see it being an SS Dash as it has a Clock delete plate and idiot lights instead of tack and gauges, the Dash may also be cut with an aftermarket radio installed.
Does look really nice from the outside, I don't think the aftermarket wheels do anything for it.

No way to know unless it has a build sheet.
We've been through this many times before.

True, some folks think the L on the trim tag means SS but that has never been proven and there has be a couple of known non SS cars with the L plus a couple of known SS cars without the L

Anything could have been replaced on it in the last fifty years so the dash means nothing.
My convertible which was originally a 307 Malibu has a round gauge tach and gauge dash.

Idiot light round SS dashes were standard in SS cars that were not ordered with gauge package. Round idiot light dashes were not available a Malibu. When gauges were ordered on a Malibu a round gauge dash was required. Also a clock was an option.

When a round gauge dash was ordered in a non SS car it was actually the tach and gauges that was being ordered so any round gauge dash in a non SS car has a tach.

Dean that is exactly what I said. Back to the car in question. It has an idiot light round dash that only came in SS cars. So if the car in question has the original dash it is a true SS. If the dash was replaced it was originally installed in an SS only, that is the reason I referred to it as a SS dash.

Shiny paint but I see distant pictures, no picture of the engine or under carriage. When it was painted everything was painted over in the jams. Trunk looks like a poor patch job but again could you get further away.. The top of the cowl looks like it was painted with a brush and it shouldn't be red. A lot of the interior panels are shot. Just imagine the comments with good close up pics. 50k is out of line for a non number matching car without documents. If the car was local I might look at it but if it was more than 20 miles away I would keep looking. As Dean said without numbers or doc's its anyone guess if it is real. What rear end, are any numbers correct for an SS. I could go on. To me without numbers it is just a clone unless they can prove otherwise.

Never thought of it like that but it does make sense that a round gauge dash without gauges has to be an SS dash.

I never thought of it either until it was pointed out by Dale M. Another question I asked a long time ago but never received an answer to was did big block cars have a different under hood engine harness than small block cars. Gauges or not. This may be another way to tell a big block car.

Dean,
I may be wrong but I don't see it being that way, just because the car came with round gauges would not necessarily make them all SS dashes.
Look at the 70 to 72 Monte Carlo's they all came with the round Dash the ones that were SS had the tack and manual gauges in 70 - 71 in 72 there was no SS as far as I know it was called a Custom that had a tack and manual gauges.
I guess some of the car's that were actually true SS cars that came with the round Dash could've been ordered from the factory with idiot lights instead of manual gauges and still be an SS car but I don't see all around the Dashes being an SS Dash.

As far as real or cloned SS go the one thing with my car is I never had anyone ask me if it was a "Real Malibu" but I did have someone say nice car and it's nice you didn't put SS emblems on it.

It nice to see we still have some nice looking Malibu's around that hasn't slipped and fell on a set of SS emblems.

1000% agree. My car has all SS options, but not one SS emblem. It’s NOT an SS.
